You’ve probably heard these two terms before. Maybe you’ve even used them interchangeably. But there’s a difference. What is it?
Food Bank
A food bank is a warehouse or bigger storage place for groceries. They’re nonprofit organizations that partner with businesses and farmers to receive food donations. Food banks then work with local food pantries and soup kitchens to distribute the food to the community.
Food Pantry
A food pantry is open to the community, whether that be through appointments or walk-ins. Pantries house a variety of food items that community members can come in and take home for free.
